Short lived win…

This "WIN" maybe short lived..!! 

After a request by CDL to rezone this land to residential, they were rejected three times during the Future Development Strategy process last year. 

As a consequence, CDL have now put an application to Central Government for the "Fast Track" system to change the zoning from Plains Production Zone to Residential. 

If accepted, this will mean over 300 homes on 30ha of Class 2 soils, covering them with CONCRETE and ASPHALT thus destroying the soils forever.

Is this acceptable, particularly when the National Policy Statement on Highly Productive Land legislation prohibits this from happening?

How disappointing…!!!

The “Fast Track” may have merits to progress growth in NZ, but with regard to the environment and highly productive land, there needs to be guidelines that add protection to what cannot be replaced.

We are the guardians of this land, not the masters of it.
