It has always been suspected that Fast Track applications for residential developments have been linked to political donations.
One can only guess the agenda behind such donations from developers but it does smell of an unlevel playing field when Fast Track residential developments, out of sequence to Local Government planning, are decided upon by Central Government officials and so called experts from Wellington.
All this is done with the exclusion of local input from councils and the general public.
The public had no say in the Fast Track Approvals Act legislation.
Are we as a society happy with this when under the Act, Fast Track has precedence over and above all council planning as well as the legislation to protect our highly fertile and productive land in the Natural Policy Statement on Highly Product Land?
Perception that this is corrosive to people’s trust in politics and the political process.
